Description

The Werftquartier is located in the district of Geestemünde and is characterized by various waterfront locations like no other district. These waterfront locations are attractive sites for living, working, science and research, leisure, culture and local amenities.
With a size of 140 hectares, this development area is of outstanding importance in urban development and will link the city center and the Havenwelten with the Schaufenster Fischereihafen in the future. The site of the SSW shipyard and the areas between Riedemannstrasse and Ellhornstrasse, which are centrally located in the development area, offer particular development potential. The core area of the former shipyard is largely in private hands.
The development south of the city center in the area of the Maritime Research Mile around the commercial port has already taken shape through various projects.
A new, high-quality residential development has already been realized at the commercial port. The new AOK building and the high-quality open space design in the immediate vicinity have led to further upgrading measures.
The AWI is expanding in the area of the former administrative buildings of the "Nordsee" and the "Deutsche See". In addition, the new AWI Technical Center is currently under construction and there are attractive expansion areas available in this area for the expansion of Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences. As with the commercial port, this is also creating new demand for attractive residential construction.
With the redesign of Kaistraße, concrete measures are planned that will enable a waterfront route into the shipyard quarter. Since 2020, the construction of the new Geestemünde police station has been planned on land acquired by the city. The police station is currently under construction. The building is due to be completed in 2025 and will make the entrance area from the Geestemünde district to the Werftquartier more attractive.
Historic buildings will be included in the planning and preserved. In the "Schaufenster Fischereihafen" area, the old Eiswerke Bremerhaven building is one example.
Since spring 2022, an urban development framework plan has provided the structure for further planning and urban land-use planning.
