Location description¹:
Bremerhaven is the largest city on the German North Sea coast and part of the federal state of Bremen. The city offers all the functions and facilities of a regional center.
Bremerhaven has a decades-long maritime tradition. Building on this, the maritime city is one of Europe's largest container ports, a leader in automobile import and export, a competence center for logistics and maritime technologies, especially for research and development in offshore wind energy. The development of application technologies and support for the green economy is a particular concern. The innovative and sustainable fishing and food industry has long been an important economic sector in the maritime city.
Companies in the city can rely on highly specialized and renowned scientific institutions such as the Alfred Wegener Institute Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research, the Fraunhofer Institute for Wind Energy Systems, the Thünen Institute of Sea Fisheries and Fisheries Ecology, the DLR Institute for the Protection of Maritime Infrastructures, the Institute of Maritime Transport and Logistics and the various institutes of the university. Bremerhaven University of Applied Sciences provides business-oriented training. Around 3,000 students from 40 nations are currently studying on the 24 technical, scientific and economic Bachelor's and Master's degree courses at the "University by the Sea".
